Public notice to change waiting list preference

Great Plains Housing Authority (GPHA) is proposing an addition to the waiting list preferences on the Section 8 Housing Choice program.  The proposed preference for “Mainstream” vouchers to serve clients who are disabled but not elderly and;

  • residing in an institutional or other segregated setting;
  • at serious risk of institutionalization; or
  • at risk of homeless;

The housing authority will require documentation proving disability and proper categories.  Clients can apply for other qualifying preferences on the waiting list.  Qualifying does not guarantee housing assistance.

If adopted, the waiting list will sort in the following order:

  • Victims of Domestic Violence;
  • Mainstream Vouchers;
    • residing in an institutional or other segregated setting;
    • at serious risk of institutionalization; or
    • at risk of homeless;
  • Local households residing in rural communities (under 2,500 population)
    • Elderly & disabled households
    • Families with minor children
    • Singles and couples
  • Local households residing in non-rural communities (over 2,500 population)
    • Elderly & disabled households
    • Families with minor children
    • Singles and couples
  • Non-local households
    • Elderly & disabled households
    • Families with minor children
    • Singles and couples

GPHA board of commissioners will vote on the preference and amended language at the November 20th meeting.  The new preference will go into effect immediately upon a passing vote.
